Korean Fried Chicken: Y U SO GOOD?!

Korean Fried Chicken: Y U SO GOOD?!

We have all had KFC, followed shortly by that greasy feeling of instant regret and gastrointestinal despair. If you are a deep fried chicken enthusiast, prepare to have your tastebuds blown away.

What if I told you this; what if I told you that the best deep fried chicken is not actually from the American south, but from Asia. In many asian cuisines deep-fried chicken is a staple, wings especially. However Koreans have taken it to the next level by perfecting a popular recipe of crunchy, spicy, non greasy deep fried chicken that has made it all the way from Seoul to the US.

The secret is in the method. None of the heavy buttermilk batters are used here. Korean-style fried chicken uses an Asian frying technique that rids the chicken of fat in the skin, creating a thin, crispy crust. Typically korean fried chicken is seasoned only after it is fried, with either a garlic-soy glaze or a hotter red-pepper sauce. Both equally delicious.

Living in New York I discovered Korean Fried Chicken, and haven’t looked back since. For those of you excited for a taste, the popular New York franchise Bon Chon has recently opened up in Dubai, at Bur Dubai.

I desperately wanted to try it in New York, but instead got wasted with my former professor at an oyster place in Grand Central, then stumbled to a reputable flagship store to buy my wedding gear.

    sad times.
