Decided to go to the movies after 12 last night to go see the Hunger Games, and I wasn’t disappointed. After a few attempts to register on the Cinescape site I finally got my ticket and was surprised, upon my arrival, to find the cinema half-full. Which is strange considering its a weekday.

The producers of this movie set out on making a good movie, and they did succeeded. There were no flailing boobs and the protagonist is a vigilant and talented woman, who happens to be a bad ass. Actually the love interest in this movie, the guy, is the epitome of lame. The gender reversal is refreshing and welcomed. Not to spoil the movie but while he bitches about quitting and being a little bitch, she basically tells him to shut up. The movie was long, but the pacing was good.

With that said, the movie was a poor mans Battle Royal. If you are on the look out for an exceptional movie, of the same genre, actually this movie and the novels, to my understanding, are a rip off of the original Japanese movie, I could be sorely mistaken here. But even if I was, doesn’t change the fact this movie only glimpses the epicness that is Battle Royal. And don’t bother watching Battle Royal 2, that shit is just a mess.

But what the hell, this is a free country. Go watch both movies! and make up your own mind. I personally like the direction of new Hollywood movies. But my heart lies with Chiaki Kuriyama, pictured below, and her amazing role in Battle Royale.
